In pulling together inspiration for today’s post, it dawned upon me that 2013 has been a year of sartorial contradictions. During the summer, fashion editors had us scrambling for serene monochromatic outfits, whereas this winter’s biggest color trend was…pastel. That’s right folks: winter is no longer reserved for dim blacks and grays (unless of course you’re into the whole #blacksoulinwinter spiel). My favorite pastel pieces to incorporate into my winter wardrobe are candy colored coats. Just think about how beautiful an icy blue coat looks contrasted against a snow-speckled landscape…or a blush pink, or cool green…I can keep going with this.  Not to mention that they’re the perfect transitional pieces for spring.

However, if the thought of wearing a pale coat against ghostly winter skin scares the pants off you (this can actually be taken literally), we’ve taken note of some great tips from our favorite candy coated runway shows. The Mulberry collection displayed pretty pink coats contrasted with dark clothing and accessories. We found that the addition of dark tones prevents your skin from being faded by the pastel nature of the coat. For those of you who are more daring, my favorite winter look came from Celine. A model wearing an oversized blush coat accented with gray accessories, embraced her pale skin and exuded a soft, feminine feel. Whichever style you prefer, we find this winter’s candy pallet to be a delectable treat.
